Ahh better... almost

After one weekend of painting the apartment is starting to look MUCH better. However, as I start to write down everything I need to purchase, there's quite a lot of things, but I'll try my best to stick to the essentials =)
I think I will actually have to increase my budget from $2000 USD to around $3000 USD.... =/

Good thing is I've got some time to look for a bed, because I found out today that my stuff will get here on July 17th, which means I can sleep on my couch while I hunt for a deal on a good and comfy bed. Other things I can be cheap on, but I need my beauty rest. =P

I've got just a tiny bit more to paint, then I'm done. However, I've still got to figure out what to do with those hanging lights... any suggestions?

Anonymous said...: You can replace the hanging lights with fixtures (would cost anywhere from $25 - $100 USD). This would require you to cut the wires and reattach (probably need landlord's permission)...or you can just buy covers for them like Phi said. Maybe one of those old style lantern covers (Paper covered box or ball). It is suggested that you make an appointment, do it via online (through link above), don't waste your time calling their phone system, I tried for a good hour and was not able to make an appointment.

If you're here on business, make sure the immigration officer at the airport notice your work permit and stamp it. Instead of the normal 90 days stamp, you'll get one where the officer will fill in the expiration date of you entrance (which is the number of days allowed for your permit).

Plan on being there for a good 2 hours.

UMBRELLA and RAIN BOOTS
If you're coming to HK between May and August, be sure to buy or bring both an umbrella and rain boots. Not just any umbrella, you want a large one that covers about 2 people. As I learned today that the umbrella I bought last night was way too small because the rain doesn't fall just straight down here, they fly horizontally as well! Hence about a quarter of the bottom of my pants were went from walking 2 blocks to work . x-(

IKEA purchasing tips
Take note that when you purchase furniture and get it delivered (yes, IKEA in HK delivers, for a small fee), you have the option to add additional accessory items along with you furniture shipment for just $40 HKD. Instead of making a few trips (which I did), go to IKEA's HK website and browse through their catalog, write down everything you want, and purchase everything on the same day. That way you can get your knickknacks delivered for only $40, take note that you can get a ton of stuff delivered, not just 2 or 3 items, probably like 20 or 30!!! Having to walk back and forth from IKEA with 2 bags full of time each time is a pain in the butt! x-(
